There have been several back-and-forths on the implementation of a new minimum wage. From N200,000 to N400,000 and numerous meetings but the FG is yet to conclude.
Amidst all of what has been happening, the management of the National Mathematical Center, Abuja has also announced that the payment of salaries to Federal Government civil servants will be delayed, which is quite unusual.
The details of the information were enclosed in a statement signed off by the acting bursar of the association, Pius Ukwah. According to the statement, the delay in payment of salary is from the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation (AGF).
The AGF office is currently in the process of completing the 2024 Appropriation on the GIFMIS platform. Consequently, the Personnel Warrant for January 2024 has not been issued yet. Also, the statement disclosed that the delay will impact not only the Center but will extend to other MDAs. It encouraged their employees to be patient while awaiting a positive resolution from the OAGF.
Considering that this is quite unusual, there is a huge restlessness among the individuals involved, and according to these workers, it’s a wrong time to be owed salaries. The economy is bad and people are just struggling to live a good life. “How do they expect us to meet our responsibilities to our families including school fees and other necessities? We cannot continue like this,” a civil servant complained to Vanguard.
Aside from the federal government which is delaying salaries, a number of individuals have taken to Twitter, now X to complain about being owed salaries for months and following this, they’ve been calling out the employers and organizations.
