The Federal Road Safety Corp(FRSC) was created by the Federal Government, in February 1988. The corp was established to create a safe Monitoring environment and eradicate road traffic jams. Their Mission is to control, Enforce, and Coordinate Road traffic and encourage the Safety of its citizens through:

- Promotion of stakeholder cooperation

- Effective patrol operation.
Job Description of FRSC
According to the FRSC’s website, Here are their responsibilities.
- Educating drivers, motorists, and other members of the public generally on the proper use of the highways.
- Designing and producing the driver’s license to be used by various categories of vehicle operators
- Prevent or minimize accidents on the highway
- Prompt attention and care to victims of accidents
- Regulating the use of seat belts and other safety devices
- Clearing obstructions on any part of the highways
- Determining, from time to time, the requirements to be satisfied by an applicant for a driver’s license
- Designing and producing vehicle number plates
- Maintaining the validity period for drivers’ licences which shall be three years subject to renewal at the expiration of the validity period
- Ensuring standard highway traffic codes
- Regulating the use of sirens, flashers, and beacon lights on vehicles other than ambulances and vehicles belonging to the Armed Forces, Nigeria Police, Fire Service, and other Para-military agencies
- Conducting research into causes of motor accidents and methods of preventing them and putting into use the result of such research
- Determining and enforcing speed limits for all categories of roads and vehicles and controlling the use of speed-limiting devices
- Cooperating with bodies or agencies or groups in road safety activities or in the prevention of accidents on the highways
- Making regulations in pursuance of any of the functions assigned to the Corps by or under this Act.
- Providing roadside and mobile clinics for the treatment of accident victims free of charge
- Regulating the use of mobile phones by motorists
- Regulating the use of motorcycles on the highway
They also have the power to arrest and persecute anyone who has committed any traffic offense. Unlike other government forces like the policy, soldiers. FRSC does not make use of guns in their operation. According to a statement by the FRSC Corp Marshal to the Guardian News “The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) said that its personnel had not started carrying any form of firearm whether on patrol or on other official duties”. Requirements to Join FRSC
The requirements for applications for interested individuals are:
- Must have a higher qualification from any recognized institution
- Be a Nigerian
- Candidates Should be between the age of 18-35 years
- Have a minimum Height of 1.69 for males while females is 1.65.
- Possess SSCE, NECO, and NABTEB with 5 Credits including Maths and English
- Computer Literacy and English proficiency
