Beyond being a badass and knowing your onions, there is more. Having just technical skills does not cut it, you may need to have some soft skills that will help you to stay winning at work. While it is okay to have hard skills, if you lack certain skills, it may be hard to push through your role and enjoy your job. 

What are Job Survival Skills?

Job survival skills are a set of abilities and qualities that help individuals navigate and thrive in their professional environment. They are different from technical skills and may not exactly be soft skills but they are doable. Being intentional about doing them can have you climbing the ladder of your profession and reaching right for the top. Some of these survival skills involve the following; 

Deliver Quality Work Always 

Of course, it is not every time you feel like getting work done. However, it is important to note that the quality of the work you turn in says a whole lot about your attitude to work. Having a positive attitude towards work makes you a valuable asset in any organization. Also, consistently delivering high-quality work demonstrates your commitment, professionalism, and dedication to your role. It also helps you build a strong reputation and can lead to career advancement and increased opportunities. 

Never be a Back Bencher 

There are several people who claim to be employees but have never contributed to work meetings for one reason or the other. Some people stay under the umbrella of being an introvert and avoid speaking up in meetings or sharing their ideas. However, active participation in meetings and discussions is essential for professional growth. It allows you to show your expertise, build relationships, develop leadership skills, and be a problem solver. 

Don’t be too forward 

While you are trying hard not to be a backbencher, be sure that you are not also being too forward. Don’t overdo things by trying to get on everyone’s face with your ideas. Strike a balance between active participation and being overly forward or aggressive in your interactions. Being too forward can sometimes be counterproductive, as it may come across as pushy or overbearing. Instead, engage only in a respectful and collaborative approach. Listen to others, consider their input, and find opportunities to contribute thoughtfully without dominating discussions. 

Avoid Shifting Responsibilities 

Regardless of your position within the organization, own up to your commitments and deliver on them as promised. Also, instead of shifting responsibilities, be someone others can depend on when the going gets tough or not. Address challenges instantly and make sure that you seek solutions instead of passing the blame to other people within your team.
