When it comes to Human Resources, there are a couple of perceptions about who they are and what they do. Human resources people are mostly seen as the hire and fire department resulting in the various misconceptions that are being raised about them.
Human resources are tasked with the duties of finding, sorting, selecting, screening, interviewing, and the employment of talents. They are also in charge of managing talents on the job while catering to their all-round welfare.
Over time, Human resources has extended its growth from being a department in an organization to becoming an outsourcing firm as it is called now. Although the Human resources department still exists, outsourced firms are now mostly easing the duties of the Company’s HR.
HR Misconceptions and the truth!
Regardless of the core duties of a Human resource, the misconceptions tend to surface more than the intended functions of the Human Resource personnel. Here are some misconceptions that seem to be a general truth about Human Resources
HRs are rude
All individuals do not have the same character; an encounter with a rude HR does not make all other HRs rude. Just like we have a caliber of people with different characters and personalities, so do we have different HRs. Also, in the midst of the ones perceived to be rude, there are other HRs working tirelessly to ensure that their staff are well cared for on the job. The Issue of individual character should not be a factor for general conclusions about others.
HRs are authoritative and they make the final decisions for staff
This also goes along with the first misconception. However, when it comes to decision-making, HRs do not just conclude on matters affecting their workforce. They conduct surveys, ask questions, observe what would be of great benefit to their staff, and table it before the company’s management. It is essential to note that HRs are basically interested in their staff’s welfare.
HRs are always laying off staff
In the real sense, laying off staff is not a hobby that HRs enjoy. Getting quality talent is quite a workload for HRs as they take their time to ensure they get the appropriate person for the job. However, when the need arises to necessarily lay off staff, they will definitely do that. This usually occurs after several warnings are sent to the staff for adjustments. Professionalism does not work with pity if you really want the level of growth you desire in your company.
HRs exploit vulnerable applicants
In a society, there would always be categories of people regarded as the black sheep. Exploiting job seekers in the name of having connections as HR personnel or over-promising job offers by asking for money or other things is against the Human resources code of conduct and the policy of any organization. Whenever such an occurrence takes place, do not hesitate to report it to the authorities in charge for necessary disciplinary actions. HRs are more willing to help as many unemployed candidates when there is an opportunity not the other way round.
HRs unnecessarily pick staff errors and send queries
Diligence and discipline to work are some of the mandates that HRs enforce in the workforce, not that they intentionally want to pick on their staff, they are only watching for the team and company at large. And queries are what is used to call the attention of staff to order.
Misconceptions are mostly based on unverified facts. It is best to make proper findings about what is true before believing the false statements. Nevertheless, there is always the good and bad in everything but finding and accepting the good part is much more healthy for the mind.
