The Lagos State Government is working with the Ministry for Establishments and Training and the Office of Sustainable Development Goals. They teamed up with UK Aid, the Foreign Commonwealth Development Office, and Tech4Dev to teach 3,000 public servants about digital skills.
This means that about 3,000 public servants will now have digital skills and be able to apply them in different areas. Also, apart from the government jobs they have, they can take on freelancing opportunities or side hustles.
At the start of the training on Thursday at the Public Service Staff Development Centre in Magodo, the Commissioner for Establishments and Training, Mr. Afolabi Ayantayo, stated that Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s government is dedicated to giving the state’s workers the necessary skills to succeed and become even better at their jobs.
“The world is evolving at an unprecedented pace, and our ability to harness the potential of digital tools will determine our effectiveness and relevance in our places of work. Therefore, the need for civil servants to be proficient in the realm of digital technology is not just a necessity but a strategic imperative,” Ayantayo said.
The commissioner is optimistic that the training will make government workers more productive in different departments and improve how services are provided. The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Establishments and Training, Mrs Olubusola Abidakun, mentioned that the program is meant to empower more than 3,000 civil servants with the skills needed to handle the challenges of the digital age.
According to Punch, the training started on Thursday and will end on the 14th of February 2024. It involves 10 groups of 300 participants in each group, and each group will be trained for four days.
Participants who can milk this opportunity can take on side hustles that can even fetch them an extra income.
