Regardless of how cool you may be with your manager or the number of work besties you might have made for yourself, never disclose information about your current job search to anyone. Also, do not even say something about being unhappy with your job. Instead, you want to keep your job moves and strategies to yourself until you achieve the success you are looking forward to.
Use Positive Feedback or Performance Reviews to Strengthen your Resume
If you’ve ever received commendations for specific projects or skills, mention them in your resume. For instance, “Recognized by management for developing an innovative solution to X problem, leading to a 20% increase in efficiency.” These types of accolades provide external validation of your skills and achievements. It also brings depth and credibility to your resume.
Versatility will always be a prized trait
During your job search, show that you are not just an expert at one thing but have a broad skill set that can be applicable in several cases. Mention experiences where you have quickly learned and adapted to new skills, systems, and technologies. For instance, If you have always worked as a content writer and a copywriting role comes knocking, be sure that you have upskilled yourself enough to know what your job will be as a copywriter. Doing this will present you as a valuable asset to the organization.

Track your job applications
If you are in your era of thorough job search, chances are you are applying to very many organizations. During this process, it is possible to forget about each vacancy you have applied to which may be a challenge if you get an interview invite. To avoid being in this type of mess, track your applications; you could open a file and tag it “Job Applications” and save every job you have applied to into that folder. While you think you might remember where the job is coming from even without saving, it’s not always so easy. Now that you can manage the applications, don’t hesitate.
Be honest and direct when discussing employment gaps
A recruiter might be able to tell if you are not being truthful about any information you have put down in your resume/CV, so it is usually advisable that you say only the truth. If you have any employment gap, come out clean about why they are there. Also, if you do not have any experience but have acquired skills to work the job, do not forge experiences into your CV, instead, focus on the brighter side and hope for a smooth experience.

If you ever have to explain career transitions, portray them as part of your evolution. Each move should be a step in your journey of growth and exploration. For instance, if you are transitioning from a technical role to a managerial role, you can say “Evolving from a technical expert role to overseeing a team of 10, utilizing extensive industry expertise to propel team success and project excellence.” Present a perspective that shows so much intentionality and strategic career planning.
Don’t ever think that you don’t need a community
Network and community have always been a thing but the truth is, as time goes on, there is more and more need for you to meet people who can help you chart your course. There are several people working jobs that they got via someone or someone who linked them up with another person. So, whether you are searching for a job or you already have one, be with the right people and seek connections in the right places. Sometimes, the reason you are having a very smooth career journey is because of the people you have connected with and even the new ones you are meeting with from time to time.
