Lost hope of Admission this year? Check the National Open University 

The National Open University, also known as NOUN was established in the year 1983 and currently has its main station in Lagos state, Nigeria. The tertiary institution was founded by the Nigerian Government to enable people who can benefit from higher education to have access to it. The Federal Ministry of Education’s Higher Education Division not only initiated the establishment of an Open University but also ensured that it was merged with the current education system in the country. It also has a number of opportunities to offer apart from providing quality education for all and they include flexibility of delivery system, cost-effectiveness, on-the-job teacher training, improved economies of scale, vocational education, and reaching all and sundry.

How to Apply to the National Open University 

If you have not been able to get admission to study in a university of your choice and you don’t have plans to stay back at home this year, you can apply to the National Open University. To send in your application:

  • Go to the school website at www.nouonline.net
  • Check the menu bar on the home page. 
  • Click on “Apply for admission”
  • Pick an undergraduate programme or a postgraduate programme depending on what you want. 
  • On the left side of the screen, click on “Choose faculty”
  • complete the form shown on the screen.
  • Click to see the admission requirements.
  • Click the “Apply” button to continue.
  • Make sure to record the UNIQUE ID that appears.
  • Click the ‘Continue’ button.
  • Choose ”Bank Branch” as the payment method and then click “Pay.”
  • Copy and bring your RRR number to any bank branch for payment.

After you paid all necessary fees, you need to go back to the website, back to apply for admission then; 

  • Click on continue after payment
  • Enter the Unique ID, RRR number and program
  • Click “Proceed”
  • Fill Form.  
  • Submit
  • Print out your admission letter
  • Visit the NOUN closer to you for screening.

NOUN Admission Requirements 

To gain admission into the National Open University, here are the requirements and documents: 

  • An applicant for an undergraduate degree must have at least 5 O’level credits including Mathematics and English Language
  • Birth Certificate and Declaration of Age. 
  • Original and photocopies of academic certificates and transcripts including O’level certificates. 
  • Evidence of any professional qualification or certification. 
  • Passport photographs 
  • Evidence of Payment (through Remitta) 
  • Other requirements as requested by a chosen program of study.

How much do I have to pay for School Fees at the National Open University? 

Students of the National Open University may pay different amounts of school fees because freshers will have new levies to pay, unlike the old students. However, the school fee has never been and is still not exorbitant as it ranges between N18000 (for old students) – N36,000 (for new students). The breakdown of the fees for the fresher include:

Where is NOUN located?

The University has a location in different states and there are currently 78 study centres across Nigeria. Almost every state in Nigeria has at least one study center and all you have to do is find the study center closer to you.
