Multichoice raises subscription fee for DSTV and GOTV again

Multichoice users are still not over the price hike that happened earlier this year and there is already another 19% increase on the price of its products.

The broadcasting company said this new increase applies to all bouquets available on GOTV and DSTV. Also, Multichoice has revealed that it is not their forte to make things unbearable for the users but the increase in cost in all aspects of the business has left them with no choice. Hoping that Nigerians will reason with the company, they also disclosed that the country’s current economy is another reason for their decision.

This development is happening after Multichoice revealed a $72 million shortfall in its third-quarter financial report. This indicates that the company is currently having a bad time financially and doing all it can to keep the business in check. According to Multichoice, the new prices for both DStv and Gotv are as follows:

DStv:

  • Premium: N29,500 (+20%)
  • Compact+: N19,800 (+19%)
  • Compact: N12,500 (+19%)
  • Confam: N7,400 (+19%)
  • Yanga: N4,200 (+20%)

Gotv:

  • Supa: N7,600 (+19%)
  • Max: N5,700 (+19%)
  • Jolli: N3,950 (+19%)
  • Jinja: N2,700 (+20%)

What are the users saying?

Naturally, users may find the price increase of a product bothersome because they probably have to expand their budget but Multichoice having to do it for the 2nd time in one year completely threw its customers off the cliff. Here are some of the comments from the users as seen on X:

“They had better pack up,”  said an X user who quoted a tweet that talked about the development with Multichoice.

Another X user said, “As long as Dollars keep going up, these prices will go up too.”

Yet another user said, “Truly breaking news.

One of the consequences of bad leadership and a silent electorate.”

While a few users can understand the state of the economy being the reason for Multichoice’s decision, a larger part of their users have refused to have it.
