See why you are not Landing Job Interviews

Almost everyone sees job search as an intense process; this is majorly because you are required to put in a lot of work to be invited for interviews even before you get the job. For some people, they don’t even get interviews and this is due to a couple of reasons. Sometimes, you are probably not doing something right which is not entirely bad if you are willing to learn. So, if you are doing any of the points that will be stated in this article, it is why you are not getting invited for interviews.

Don’t do these if you want to get invited to interviews

You want to know what you are doing wrong? Here you go:

You are using a Poor CV/Resume

Your CV may look really good to you but it is important to check it out again or have someone (maybe an expert) check it for you. There are certain keywords your resume must contain, especially if your resume will be passed through an ATS (Applicant tracking system). An applicant tracking system scans your cv to see if it is compliant with the job description that was put out. If not, then, you might not be considered for an interview.

You don’t meet the basic requirements

It is okay to try your luck with a job because you think you have all it takes to pull off the role perfectly. However, you need to also know that when organizations include basic requirements in the job description, they are most likely heavy on it. For instance, if a company needs a social media manager who is not more than 25 years old and you, a 27-year-old, apply for the same job because “you can do it”, chances are the hiring team will go for other applicants within their age requirement. The same applies to every other requirement too.

You are not tailoring your job applications right

This could be with your cover letter.  A good cover letter should explain why you are the perfect person for the job role and how your skills and expertise can contribute to the success of the organization. Show your skills, every single one. But, if you lack direct experience, you can emphasize your transferable skills that can really work for the new role you are looking to take.

You don’t take job instructions seriously

There are job descriptions that have instructions as simple as telling you to write your names in capital letters only. Employers use these instructions to filter candidates and assess their attention to detail and ability to follow directions. Failing to follow even minor instructions can result in your application being dismissed which automatically means there Is no interview for you.

You are not following up with your applications

When you send out job applications, It is not okay to just sit back after weeks of application and do nothing. A follow-up shows your continued interest in the position and can help you stand out. After applying, consider sending a good follow-up email or making a phone call to inquire about the status of your application.

Landing an interview gives you hope of getting the job. This is why you need to put in so much effort at every stage of your job application. Never leave any stone unturned. Put your best foot forward.
