Set to write JAMB but facing NIN Issues? Read this!

JAMB has scheduled a meeting with NIMC to address complaints from applicants facing difficulties in linking their NIN with their phone numbers, as well as concerns about inaccurate information in NIMC’s records.

Last week, JAMB opened the registration portal for individuals willing to sit for the UTME examination this year but the experience, according to the applicants, has been bad.

Potential applicants have voiced frustration due to difficulties in linking their mobile phone numbers with their National Identification Number (NIN) or encountering inaccuracies in their NIN details.

Over the years, the UTME which is a mandatory exam for anyone looking to gain admission into the university, polytechnic, mono-technic, or even college of education has happened without the need for the applicants’ NIN. However, in recent years, applicants have had to use their NIN when registering for the examination.

JAMB said the reason for requesting that candidates interested in the exam use their NIN during the application process is part of the organization’s efforts to combat malpractices such as impersonation.

What is the way forward from the recent complaints?

In response to a rising number of complaints from applicants and their parents or guardians, JAMB has announced that it has arranged a meeting with the leadership of the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC), the body responsible for NIN.

JAMB acknowledges the difficulties applicants are encountering, particularly in the verification and linkage of their NIN. The Head of Public Affairs and Protocol, Fabian Benjamin, expressed JAMB’s surprise at the high number of complaints and assured a prompt intervention. He mentioned that a meeting has been planned between the leadership of both organizations.

“Both JAMB and NIMC will meet on Monday (today) to address the concerns and I can assure you that these issues will be addressed,” Mr Benjamin disclosed.

Most importantly, he has suggested that applicants encountering inaccuracies in their NIN records should pause their UTME registration until NIMC updates and rectifies the information.

For the affected applicants, there is no need to panic about putting their registration on hold as the deadline is still set for the 26th of February 2024. Before then, JAMB and NIMC must have perfected all issues affecting applicants.
