SMEDAN Creates Internship Opportunities for Entrepreneurs

Who said entrepreneurs or enthusiasts of entrepreneurship cannot be interns? For every field, there is something new or a big project to start from scratch. Also, gaining knowledge to run your business never goes wrong. There are different ways to make money; it’s either you have a job, a small business, or a big business. So, if there is an opportunity to help you become better, that’s a huge jackpot.

The Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria has introduced an undergraduate internship initiative aimed at discovering, training, and empowering prospective entrepreneurs on various campuses nationwide. Whether you are already an entrepreneur or you are looking to become one, the opportunity is for people who are interested in learning about entrepreneurship from the basics.

What’s the plan for Entrepreneurs?

During SMEDAN’s official unveiling at Baze University in Abuja, Charles Odii, the Director General of the agency, revealed plans to secure 10,000 internship positions through the initiative in the year 2024.

The agency, according to Mr.Odili, has garnered the support of numerous esteemed companies to offer students valuable practical knowledge and experience through the initiative. Also, he introduced Miss Farida Akuyam, a Business Management student at the university, as the inaugural participant in the program.

Furthermore, he mentioned that the program, named the “SMEDAN Undergraduate Internship Programme,” was created to offer students valuable hands-on entrepreneurial exposure by providing quality internships at well-respected organizations.

“We want to spot and nurture the builders of Nigeria’s next unicorns, and this program is a major step towards achieving that goal. It is a significant demonstration of the agency’s commitment to advancing the MSME sub-sector by making the right investments in talent and innovation. Selected students will receive specialized training, experiential learning, networking opportunities, and mentorship,” the director general said.

Who can benefit from this entrepreneurship program?

The entrepreneurship program is for people who can take up certain skills and offer their skills to people in the long run. The body believes that there is more to entrepreneurship than saying that “you can provide something” or that “you sell something”. So, if you are:

  • Already an entrepreneur
  • Thinking of being an entrepreneur
  • Fresh graduate and clueless about the next line of action.
  • Just lost your job and you are looking to try something new.
  • You are a freelancer but want to do more business on the side.

This program will provide you with all that you need to kickstart your entrepreneurial activity in any field. You can visit SMEDAN’s website for more information.
